Adolf Ryszka – Works in the Museum

Museum of Contemporary Sculpture

Curator: Jarosław Pajek

15 May – 11 July 2021

Statutory obligations of the Centre of Polish Sculpture include preservation and conservation of works of great value for the national and world art history. Thanks to the decision of Adolf Ryszka’s heirs, his works have made their way to our collection.  This fact has spurred us to organize an exhibition that would present the this eminent artist’s work.

The presentation titled Adolf Ryszka – Works at the Museum is not an untypical exhibition – it pays homage to the great Polish sculptor and at the same time it presents routine activities conducted by the staff of the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture connected with accepting works for the collection.

The show has been arranged in such a way that the displayed sculptures not only show the work of the outstanding sculptor but also his process. The exposition shows both the objects passed by the heirs as a deposit at the Centre of Polish Sculpture but also works that have been part of our collection for many years.

Adolf Ryszka’s projects and an attempt to show the artist’s creative process are combined with the presentation of activities carried out by museum staff related to documenting and conservation of the donated objects. The central part of the gallery shows sculptures brought form the master’s atelier. Some of the works are placed in boxes, some have been unpacked and wait to be passed to museum workers for documentation. The objects include sculptural sketches, ceramic forms, works in bronze, clay and plaster as well as tools and furniture from the artist’s atelier.

At the gallery, we have staged stands presenting the work of: a cataloguer, a conservator of artworks, a documentalist and a photographer. Visitors to our museum will be able to talk about the arcana of particular people’s work.  These activities are complemented by films documenting work at a museum.
