Maurycy Gomulicki Queen
The premiere presentation of Maurycy Gomulicki’s work Queen is going to take place during the International Conference Sculpture Today 4: Anti-monument: Non-traditional forms of Commemoration, on Thursday, 14 November 2019 at 14:00.
This almost 3 meter tall chess piece, coated in opalescent car paint has enriched the exhibition of the Sculpture Park in Orońsko. The shape of the work resembles the chess piece of the queen and glistens or shimmers in many colours depending on the angles of light. Originally the sculpture was sited in 2013 in Powiśle in Warsaw at the Stacja Mercedes club.
Maurycy Gomulicki graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He continued studies at the Universitat de Barcelona, at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan and at the Centro Multimedia del Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico. Artist, designer, photographer, collector and anthropologist of popular culture. He works in such media as photography, sculpture, installation, video and animation. He also deals with graphic design and book illustration. He has created a number of objects in the public space. Gomulicki is a hedonist, consistently promoting carefree, sensual art, appealing to imagination. His activities pertain to the visual manifestations of widely-understood popular culture, blurring the boundaries between the high and low culture.
The sculpture Queen has been loaned as a long-term deposit by the Mecedes-Benz Polska company.
