The exhibition is an attempt to capture and reveal the performative element in the works of the staff from the Faculty of Sculpture at the University of the Arts in Poznan UAP. Despite the diversity of stances of particular artists, this element is dominant in many projects and seems to be relevant for defining the character of their work.

Performativity is most clearly manifested in the works from the boundaries of performance and sculpture, which are particularly sensitive to the relation of the activity with the produced or used object. It may also be understood in a much broader way, as an element connected with the unclosed, transformative character of an artwork, when the focus is shifted from the object onto the process of its creation. Another kind of perfromativeness is encoded in the visual form of the work itself, which activates the viewers, inviting them to take action and co-create its sense. In the exhibition there are works which should be experienced by viewers with their bodies, in which the physical participation is necessary to constitute its meaning and those which are ‘triggered’ by the power of their imagination.

The exhibition, taking effect on the viewer as a whole, also acquires features of performativity. Through the austere in form works, using simplified but universal symbolism, the viewers are invited to discover them and experience, and at the same time to read the dialogue which arises in the encounter of particular projects. Thanks to it they may reveal their entire complexity, the whole mass of ‘shifts’, on various fields and planes.
