Alfons Karny
Studies: School of Fine Arts, Warsaw, 1925-1930, in Prof Tadeusz Breyer’s studio. After obtaining a stipend from the Fund of National Culture, he went on a study journey (France, Italy, Germany, Belgium). Author of sculpture portraits of outstanding Poles. Laureate of awards and distinctions in group exhibitions and in competitions, inter alia: Gold Medal and Order of King Leopold III at the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, Brussels, 1935; Gold Medal at the exhibition Art and Technology, Paris, 1937; State Award of the 1st degree for his lifetime achievements in sculpture 1978. Awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Poland Reborn, 1959. The greatest collection of the artist’s sculptures can be found at the Alfons Karny Museum in Białystok.
