Sylwester Ambroziak

Studies: Faculty of Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts In Warsaw, studios of professors: Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz, Stanisław Kulon, Grzegorz Kowalski, and Faculty of Drawing in Prof Marian Czapla’s studio, 1983-1989. Diploma under the direction of Prof Grzegorz Kowalski (Temptation of St Anthony), 1989. Holder of scholarships granted by: ‘Notoro’ Gallery, The Józef Brandt Foundation Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko (1990-1992), Culture Foundation (1993-1994), Kulczyk Foundation (2004). Author of large format sculptures of schematic form alluding in their style to primitive art. The artist draws inspiration from folk and prehistoric art, as well as from mass culture, comic strips and animated film. Till mid-90s he created sculptures inspired by the iconography of sacred art, using themes from the Old and New Testament.
