Tomek Kawiak

Date of birth 1943

Studies: Faculty of Painting, Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw, 1962-1967, diploma 1968; and Ècole des Beaux-Arts, 1971–1973. Assistant lecturer in the ceramic studio at the Faculty of Painting at his alma mater (1968-1970) and lecturer at the Artistic Institute in Orleans (1976-1990). Since 1970 he has lived in France. Author of the action of so-called ‘brickwork’, which relies on leaving a ‘Tomek Kawiak’s brick’ (brick, baked in red clay bearing a stamp) in the places he has visited. Critics call the artist  a chronicler of the 20th century. Author of sculptures and drawings.
