On Meadows, on Mountains, on Woods refers to a folk song about ‘unrepentant souls’ which look for a place of eternal rest. Since the mid-19th century, 17 variations of the song have been recorded, which significantly differ from one another depending on the region. Its original character of a text sung by performing vagrants, turned into a religious song connected with the cult of the Virgin Mary. Changing the text of one of the variants - The Legend of Repining Souls – the artist refers to the fluidity of folk oral traditions and attempts to restore the original context of the song, close to nature.
