Mieczysław Welter

Studies: State Higher College of Plastic Arts, Poznan, 1948-1953, and Academy of Fine Arts, Warsaw, in the studio of Prof Marian Wnuk, 1953-1956. Diploma 1956. He went on artistic journeys around Europe, Mexico, Korea, Mongolia, China. Laureate of many awards and distinctions, inter alia: Award of the Ministry of Culture and Art for his sculpture Stefan Batory, 1965; Silver Medal and Award of the Ministry of Culture and Art, 1967; 1^st and 2^nd Award in the All-Poland Competition for the Monument of Nicolas Copernicus, Frombork, 1972; Grand Prix International d’Art Contemporain, Monte Carlo, 1979; Grand Prix at the 1^st Triennial of Portrait Sculpture, Sopot, 1987. Author of monumental sculptures, portrait sculptures, small scale works following the convention of representational and thematic art of compact and austere form.
