Tomasz Skórka

Date of birth 1971

Studies: Faculty of Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. Diploma in Prof Stanisław Radwański’s studio, 1996. Since 1996 a lecturer at the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia at his alma mater. Skórka is the author of figurative works cast in concrete and resins from the series Weights, Suckers, Garden Sculptures, which he usually places in public spaces. The reason for his use of durable material is the will to provide the sculptures with inviolable form, resistant to the conditions of the surroundings. In the objects from the series Garden Sculptures, the artist consciously resigns from emphasizing aesthetic values of the presented animals for the sake of austere, even industrial-like form, evoking associations with mass-produced casts. Due to their small scale and neutral colour, the sculptures perfectly blend in with the natural surroundings.
